STUDENTS
Washington Baptist University students enrolled in study of the Word of God. They come from various independent and denominational churches. Most of the student body is from the Washington metropolitan area.
WBU is primarily an evening institution designed to serve full-time Christian workers and others who have full-time jobs during the day. Therefore, WBU offers most of its curriculum during the evening hours. Although WBU is primarily an evening institution, a number of classes are offered during the day Monday - Friday.
CHAPEL
Mandatory student participation chapel services are held four times per week for all students. These services challenge the students from the Word of God. Also, chapel serves a period of intercessory prayer. Students and faculty are expected to attend all chapel services.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT
All students are encouraged to be members of the Student Government. The Student Government coordinates student activities, promotes scholarship, fellowship and spiritual life. It seeks to develop harmonious relationships within the college and seminary. The Student Government consists of students who have been appointed/elected for three primary purposes: to listen intently for the specific needs of the student body; to channel such information steadily to the administration and faculty; and to convert such information into effective action.
CHRISTIAN SERVICE
The Christian Service Department, under the supervision of the Dean of Students, provides an opportunity for students to develop Christian leadership and spiritual ministry. Within the Washington metropolitan area there are opportunities for institutional work in jails, hospitals and nursing homes. Everything is done to ensure that students will receive the maximum degree of benefit and fulfillment from personal involvement in various types of practical Christian work and community service throughout the Washington area.
The Christian Service emphasis at WBU provides opportunities for the student to apply classroom theory to actual local church situations. Students are encouraged to gain exposure to the church ministries related to their talents and interests. Students enrolled in any degree program are required to participate in Christian services for each academic semester specified in the program of study.
The Christian service ministries may be performed in a local church or other para-church agencies. Periodic reports of accomplishments and evaluations will be made by the student. The development of a ministry portfolio with recommendations from ministry supervisors provides the student with references for future ministry positions.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The WBU Alumni Association, under the leadership of the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs, exist to build relationship in a mutual manner through networking the alumni, faculty, administration, and students of WBU so to promote harmonious link. All former students are considered alumni if they have completed at least 30 hours of college level work. Each year alumni have the opportunity to help the seminary in form of “friends of college and seminary,” making tangible contribution towards the seminary projects and programs. Alumni Grants awards students with financial need and scholarship.
STUDENT HANDBOOK
At the beginning of each school year, new students receive a copy of revised Washington Baptist University and Seminary Student Handbook. Because we at WBU are a Christian community as well as an educational institution, our family life together is governed by a code of conduct. This is done so that we may be able to function together in harmony, that we may preserve a good testimony, and that we may each develop good habits of Christian discipline.
